Solar Installation in Kovilpatti

Complete end-to-end solar installation — from the first survey visit to the day your net meter goes live.

A proper solar installation in Kovilpatti is a complete service, not just the day the panels go up on the roof. The physical fixing of panels and an inverter is the most visible part of the process, but behind it sits a chain of steps — site survey, system design, subsidy registration, TANGEDCO net-metering application, inspection co-ordination and final commissioning — each of which needs to be handled correctly or the whole project stalls. Green Point Solar manages every one of those steps in-house, which means Kovilpatti homeowners and business owners deal with one team from the opening call to the day the generation reading confirms their system is live and exporting to the TNEB grid.

Kovilpatti is a busy junction town on NH-44, roughly midway between Madurai and Tirunelveli. Its semi-arid climate and high solar irradiation make it genuinely one of the better locations in Tamil Nadu to invest in solar. The long, clear days from roughly November through May — the heart of Kovilpatti's dry season — produce the highest generation figures, and even during the northeast monsoon months the overall annual yield is excellent. A system sized and installed correctly here typically generates around four to five units per installed kilowatt per day on average across the year. That is real electricity that TANGEDCO no longer bills you for, with net metering crediting any surplus you export during the day against units you draw at night.

This page covers the complete installation service from start to finish — what each stage involves, how long it takes, and what makes our approach different from companies that hand you a brochure and disappear after collecting a cheque.

Stage 1 — the site survey

Everything starts with a visit to your property in Kovilpatti. During the survey we assess the roof type, usable area and structural condition; identify shading from parapets, water tanks or nearby trees; review your recent TANGEDCO electricity bills to understand your monthly consumption pattern; and confirm whether you are planning a residential on-grid system (most likely eligible for the PM Surya Ghar subsidy) or a commercial/industrial installation. No responsible solar company quotes without this visit — a figure given over the phone is guesswork, not a proposal.

Kovilpatti's rooftop landscape is varied. Most homes have flat RCC roofs that suit a tilted fixed-frame array. The SIDCO industrial estate and the match-unit clusters near the town have large shed roofs — ideal for bigger commercial systems. Some older properties have sloped sheet or tiled roofs. We note all of this in the survey, as it determines the mounting approach and the amount of usable generation area available.

Stage 2 — system design and proposal

After the survey, we design the system to match your consumption, your roof capacity and your budget. For a typical Kovilpatti family home consuming 300–400 units a month, a 3 kW on-grid system will generally offset most of the bill with TANGEDCO net metering, and the system qualifies for the full ₹78,000 PM Surya Ghar subsidy (₹30,000/kW for the first 2 kW plus ₹18,000 for the third). For commercial properties with higher demand, we size the system to the available three-phase load and roof area.

Our written proposal covers: the panel brand and model with specification sheet, the inverter make and warranty, the mounting structure type, DC and AC wiring design, the estimated monthly generation, and the pricing broken down into components, installation and subsidy impact. You get a number you can actually understand and compare — not just a total that obscures what you are getting.

Net metering with TANGEDCO — how it works in Kovilpatti

When your solar system generates more electricity than your home or business is using at that moment, the surplus flows back into the TANGEDCO grid through a bi-directional net meter. TANGEDCO credits those exported units against the units you draw from the grid at other times — typically evenings and nights when solar is not generating. The net meter is installed by TANGEDCO after they approve your application and inspect the installation. At Green Point Solar, we prepare and submit the TANGEDCO net-metering application after installation and attend the inspection on your behalf.

Stage 3 — the physical installation

Once you approve the proposal and the installation is scheduled, our team arrives with all the components. The physical installation sequence for a residential system in Kovilpatti generally runs as follows:

  • Mounting structure assembly: Galvanised steel or aluminium rails and frames are fixed to the roof at pre-marked anchor points, sealed with waterproofing compound.
  • Panel placement and clamping: Solar panels are lifted and clamped to the rail system, wired in series/parallel strings as per the system design.
  • DC cabling run: UV-rated DC cable is run through conduit from the array to the inverter location, using MC4 connectors at all solar cable junctions.
  • Inverter installation and earthing: The inverter is fixed in a shaded, ventilated position; earthing conductors are connected to the mounting structure, panels and inverter chassis.
  • AC connection and protection: The inverter AC output is connected to a dedicated MCB at the distribution board; surge protection devices are fitted on both DC and AC sides.
  • System start-up and testing: All connections verified, the system is energised, generation confirmed on the inverter display, and all readings documented.

Stage 4 — TANGEDCO net metering and PM Surya Ghar registration

After physical installation, the solar system is generating power but is not yet formally connected to the grid in net-metering mode. This stage requires submitting the technical application to TANGEDCO, co-ordinating the site inspection, ensuring the inspection engineer's checklist is satisfied, and arranging the bi-directional meter installation. Simultaneously, for residential systems, we register the property on the PM Surya Ghar national portal and upload the required documents for the subsidy application. The portal requires the MNRE vendor to initiate and co-manage the registration — which is why MNRE registration is a prerequisite, not a nice-to-have.

Stage 5 — commissioning and handover

The system is considered fully commissioned once the bi-directional net meter is installed and energised by TANGEDCO. At that point your solar generation is officially offsetting your TNEB consumption, and any surplus export is being credited on your account. We provide a handover document covering the system specifications, warranty details for panels and inverter, the TANGEDCO consumer number for net metering, and guidance on monitoring the inverter's generation data and basic maintenance — primarily regular panel cleaning to maintain output in Kovilpatti's dusty conditions.

Why Green Point Solar for end-to-end solar installation in Kovilpatti

The reason end-to-end matters is accountability. If every stage is handled by the same team, there is no finger-pointing when something needs attention — we own the whole chain. Our installation team is local to the Kovilpatti area, not a subcontracted crew hired for the day, which means the people who install your system can also service it when needed.

Frequently asked questions

Our end-to-end service covers the site survey, system design, physical installation by our own team, TANGEDCO net-metering application and inspection coordination, PM Surya Ghar subsidy portal registration, and final commissioning. You deal with one team throughout.

The physical installation itself takes one to two days. The total timeline from survey to a live net-metered system depends on TANGEDCO's inspection schedule, which can vary. We submit all applications promptly and follow up on your behalf.

Yes. We prepare the technical file and attend the TANGEDCO site inspection alongside their engineer. This significantly reduces the chance of any queries causing delays.

No. We supply all components — panels, inverter, mounting structure, cabling, surge protection and earthing materials. You do not need to source anything independently.

As a rough guide, around 100 square feet of unshaded, south-facing roof space is needed per kW of solar capacity. A 3 kW system therefore needs approximately 300 square feet. Our survey will confirm exactly what is available and usable on your specific roof.
